3/25/2005Good Friday
Today is the day that Christians remember the day that Christ died. It seems that, especially in recent years, Good Friday has stayed a religious holiday while Easter Sunday has been completely commercialized.
Even so, it's easy to miss the importance of the event. In the rush to Easter, and the preparations for cantatas and Passion plays, not to mention the Easter Bunny pereperations, it's very easy to lose focus. One thing I have tried to do consistently each year for the past five or so is to read and contemplate this. It's a medical account of the crucifixion of Christ that first appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association. I have seen this in several places on the internet, but this site is probably the most complete -- includes illustrations and everything. It has certainly helped keep me focused on the meaning of this season. This year, more people are focusing on Christ's death because of the movie The Passion of the Christ. I am hoping that those people will discover the good news -- Christ's resurrection on Sunday. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
